“If you think the economy is more important than the environment, try holding your breath while counting your money”
Janez Potočnik, European Commissioner for Environment, citing Prof. Guy McPherson
Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) is a methodology for evaluating the potential environmental impacts associated with a product, process, or service throughout its entire life cycle.
LCA Working Group is a research group within the Department of Sciences and Methods for Engineering (DISMI) at the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia. It was established not only to provide consultancy and answers to businesses, public administrations, and citizens interested in promoting the development of an environmentally respectful society and low-impact human activities, but also to strengthen research activities in the development of LCA methodology.
Our research center is particularly committed to addressing issues related to:
- Development of new indicators
- Modifications to environmental impact assessment methods
- Development of an Italian database
- Development of an Italian software
Thanks to the highly interdisciplinary nature of the Department of Sciences and Methods for Engineering and its synergy with the Interdepartmental Research Center En&Tech, the LCA Working Group collaborates with research groups operating in various fields, including Materials Science and Technology, Mechanical Industrial Plants, Logistics, Machinery, Technical Physics, and Structural Engineering. Over the years, projects and activities have been shared and developed, allowing the application of LCA to be extended to the following research areas: Energy, Waste, Materials, Construction, Agriculture, Cultural Heritage, Events, National System.
